Braves, Mariners finish swap of arms

By Mark Bowman / MLB.com

LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. -- It took a little longer than anticipated, but the Braves officially acquired right-handed reliever Rafael Soriano from the Mariners in exchange for left-handed starter Horacio Ramirez on Thursday.

The deal was agreed upon Wednesday afternoon, but it wasn't completed until Seattle had the opportunity to review Ramirez's medical records.

When they were looking to strengthen their bullpen during the 2006 season, the Braves were told that Soriano was untouchable. But with the Mariners needing to acquire starting pitching, they were persuaded to move the 26-year-old right-hander, who has limited opponents to a .212 batting average in his five-year American League career.

"Our needs right now were in the bullpen, and we think we got one of the better guys in baseball," Braves manager Bobby Cox said before he exited Walt Disney World's Swan and Dolphin Resort on Thursday afternoon.

"Everybody I've run into in the lobby from other organizations, they don't lust after this guy, but they like him a lot."

With the move, the Braves have acquired a top-notch setup man for closer Bob Wickman and also saved somewhere in the neighborhood of $1.2 million.

Welcome!

I have been away from card collecting and trading since the early 90's. Boy have things changed dramatically. My son and I used to attend local card shows as dealers selling and trading. My son suddenly lost interest in card collecting after discovering he actually did like girls! In 1993 I packed all the cards up in card storage boxes and hadn't bothered with them until a few months ago.

Most of what I have is from the late eighties to early nineties. Since I'm not working two jobs anymore, I have become interested in collecting and trading again. Trading seems to be the most economical way to acquire cards I need.

What I'm working on

Working on completing Donruss, Fleer, Score, Topps, and Upper Deck Braves teamsets. I will add more brands as I have time to do so. I am also collecting Chipper Jones, Andruw Jones and other Braves players. I'm interested in David Wright, David Ortiz and Derek Jeter cards too. My primary focus is on Baseball.

What you will find here

If you are only interested in game used, autographed or numbered cards, you won't find very many here at least for now. While I am interested in them I just haven't acquired many of that sort of thing yet.

What you find in my trade lists is mostly baseball 1988 to 1996, Football 1990 to 1995, basketball 1989 to 1992 and some 1991/1992 hockey I'm trying to get rid of. There will also be some insert cards for baseball, basketball and football. It will take a while to get it all listed.

Lets Trade!

I am mostly interested in trading for cards I need. I don't want to purchase cards unless it is something I really want and can't trade for. If you see something that I have that you want and don't have anything to trade, I'm not against selling you the item(s). I do accept PayPal payments.

I will trade Book Value for Book Value unless you have something I really want then I may trade in your favor. If I initiate a trade with you, I will send you my cards first. Everybody is responsible for their own shipping. I prefer to do all trades on any of several sports card trading forums such as "The Bench" (The best in my opinion.) "Sports Card Sheriff" etc.
